Diamonds

Are laboratory-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. A laboratory-grown diamond is crystallized carbon with the same chemical composition, crystal structure, hardness and optical properties as a mined diamond. It is not cubic zirconia and not moissanite — those are different materials that test differently and look different in person. The distinction that matters is origin, and we state it on every product page: our diamonds are laboratory-grown, not mined.
Can a jeweler tell the difference?
Not by eye or with a loupe. Identification relies on instruments that read growth structure, strain patterns and trace elements — which is exactly what the independent laboratory does before issuing your report. A standard diamond tester will read a laboratory-grown stone as diamond, because it is one.
Do laboratory-grown diamonds get cloudy or lose sparkle?
No. Diamond is diamond; it doesn't degrade, discolour or cloud over time. What does happen to any ring is a film of hand cream, soap and skin oil on the pavilion, which dulls the return of light. Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft toothbrush restores it in two minutes.
Are your stones treated?
Our diamonds are sold as grown, cut and polished, with no clarity enhancement, fracture filling or coating. Some CVD crystals are annealed during production, which is a heat step applied to the diamond itself and is disclosed on the grading report where the laboratory notes it. Any treatment on a specific stone is stated on that stone's product page.
Do you sell gemstones other than diamonds?
Yes — sapphires, emeralds and rubies, both as centre stones and as accents. Availability varies by size and colour, so gemstone pieces are quoted individually. Send us what you have in mind and we'll come back with options and pricing.

Certification & verification

Which laboratory grades your diamonds?
IGI, the International Gemological Institute. Your IGI report details are provided within 1–2 business days after your order is submitted, and the IGI report is included with your piece.
How do I verify the report myself?
Go directly to the laboratory's own website and use its report-check tool with the number from your paperwork. Don't rely on a link supplied by a seller — including us.
Do melee and accent stones come with reports?
Individual reports are issued for centre stones. Accent and pavé diamonds are sold as matched parcels and are covered by a parcel-level statement of origin and quality rather than one report per stone, which is standard practice across the trade.

Pricing

Why are your prices lower than a traditional jeweler's?
Three reasons, all structural. We hold no inventory, so we don't finance a showcase full of unsold rings. We have no showroom lease. And we buy stones directly rather than through several layers of the trade. That's the whole explanation — we don't run inflated compare-at prices or perpetual sales.
Is a diamond an investment?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Diamonds of any origin are jewelry. The secondary market for laboratory-grown diamonds in particular is thin. Buy a piece because you want to wear it for decades.
Do you offer financing?
We accept major cards and bank transfer, and we can split larger custom commissions into a deposit and a balance due before shipping. Ask us during your consultation.

Orders & shipping

Where is my jewelry made?
Every piece is crafted to order by our partner manufacturing facility overseas, a specialist fine-jewelry manufacturer that works exclusively with certified laboratory-grown diamonds and solid 14K and 18K gold. It then comes to our team in Tampa, Florida, where we inspect it under magnification against your order and its IGI report, package it and ship it to you fully insured. Your quality guarantees travel with the piece: an independent IGI report for your diamond, and a 14K or 18K stamp on the solid gold.
How long does an order take?
Everything we sell is made to order: crafted by our partner atelier, then inspected, packaged and shipped from Tampa, Florida. Typical production is two to three weeks from the day the design and stone are confirmed, plus transit. Complex custom work and full eternity bands can run a week or two longer; we'll give you a date in writing before you pay.
Do you have a showroom?
Not at this time. We work by video consultation, which is thirty minutes with someone who knows these pieces in detail — not a commissioned salesperson. You'll see stone videos, metal comparisons and CAD renderings on the call.
How is my order shipped?
Fully insured, signature required, tracked door to door at no cost to you. We ship domestically and to most international destinations; duties and taxes outside the US are the recipient's responsibility.
Can I return or exchange it?
Because every piece is made to order, all sales are final once production begins. If there's a defect in materials or workmanship, the free Modern Origin Lifetime Warranty covers repair or replacement. We share stone videos, CAD renderings, and sizing guidance before you buy so you can order with confidence.

Sizing, warranty & care

What if the ring doesn't fit?
Resizing is available for a fee on eligible styles — contact us with your order number and the size you need. Repairs or resizing done by another jeweler void the warranty, so please send it to us. Full eternity bands and some intricate pavé designs can't be resized, and we'll tell you that before you choose one.
How do I find the right size discreetly?
Borrow a ring they already wear on that finger and have any jeweler measure it, or send us the inside diameter in millimetres. We'd rather size slightly large and take it in — that's an easier adjustment than stretching.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
The Modern Origin Lifetime Warranty is free with every piece. It covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the piece, for the original purchaser: broken or defective prongs, settings, clasps, posts and solder joints caused by a manufacturing defect, and replacement of a center or accent diamond lost because of a defective setting, with a stone of equal or better IGI grade. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear (scratches, thinning, prong wear over time), accidental damage, loss or theft, damage from chemicals, impact or misuse, repairs or resizing done by anyone else (which voids the warranty), or engraving changes. An optional Extended Protection plan covering accidental damage, wear, prong re-tipping and resizing is coming soon at checkout.
How do I get a repair under warranty?
Email or call us with your order number and photos. We send a prepaid insured shipping label, our Tampa team inspects the piece and emails you an assessment, then we repair or replace it and ship it back insured, free of charge. Typical turnaround is 2–3 weeks. Items must be in reasonable condition and accompanied by the original order number.
How should I care for it day to day?
Take it off for the gym, gardening, swimming pools and cleaning products. Clean it weekly with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Have the prongs checked by a jeweler once a year, because a worn prong caught early is a simple fix and caught late can cost a diamond. We also recommend insuring your piece with a jewelry insurer such as Jewelers Mutual.
Can you make something that doesn't appear on the site?
That's most of what we do. Bring a sketch, a screenshot, a family stone, or a rough idea, and we'll produce CAD renderings for your approval before production begins.
